    General Statement of Duties

    Provides psycho-educational support for students who attend a particular school location which is to be determined. Provides direct service to students who have academic and social difficulties in the traditional school setting, as well as direct service to students who struggle with significant behavioral, emotional, and/or mental health issues. Incumbent works collaboratively with building administration, school staff, and assigned school social worker to meet the social-emotional and academic needs of students. Familiarity with education law and special education regulations preferred.  Knowledge of available community resources preferred.  Flexibility is required to work with diversity of individuals in a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes.  Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. 

    Essential Duties

    • Serves on various school-based student assistance committees
    • Provides school faculty training on positive behavior supports; warning signs for students at-risk for serious emotional behavior
    • Conducts functional behavior assessments
    • Provides group counseling targeting behavioral intervention strategies
    • Serves on school safety and crisis team
    • Conducts assessments of students experiencing academic and social adjustment problems in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations for exceptional education services.
    • Complete psycho-educational evaluations and other assessments in compliance with mandated timelines.
    • Collaborates with teachers, school social worker, administrators, and other school personnel to provide research-based strategies, intervention and progress monitoring to address academic and behavioral needs of students.
    • Performs structured observations of students in the school setting to resolve problems with learning and/or behavior.
    • Consults with teachers, administrators and other school personnel to help them better understand and work with individual behavior.
    • Develops and implements targeted behavior strategies/interventions to support student emotional needs and improve behavior and academic achievement.

    • Completes student risk assessments.
    • Serves as member or school-based student assistance teams; special education eligibility committees and on school safety and crisis intervention teams. 
    • Provides individual and/or group counseling for students including anger management and crisis intervention services that include grief counseling and debriefing for students and school staff.
    • Creates individual treatment plans.
    • Provides case management services to implement a comprehensive student service plan at school, home, and in the community.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Extensive knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development, both normal and abnormal, and of curriculum and instructional practices including behavior management are required.  Must be knowledgeable and abide by the ethical standards of NASP. Highly developed counseling skills for crisis and non-crisis situations and a broad background in psychological/educational testing, test interpretation, and application to behavioral and instructional strategies are also required.  Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to meet the diverse needs of our school community.  Skills in managing time and appropriate resources.

    Must hold or be eligible for a valid license issued by the Department of Education with an endorsement in school psychology. 

    School psychologists must meet requirements established by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) for administration of tests.

    Contract lengths and minimum salaries vary: 

    231 day - $58,453.81

    239 day - $60,478.19

    260 day - $65,792.17
